Nurse Anesthesiologist

If you are a nurse, or planning to become a nurse, there are many areas in which you can specialize. One such area is Nurse Anesthesiologist. For this field, however, you must first become a nurse, and then attend Nurse Anesthesiologist School. Only registered nurses are accepted into these types of training programs.

Anesthesiologist administer anesthesia to those patients who are about to have any type of surgery, including dental procedures that fall under the heading of oral surgery. The nurse, like other nurses, is supervised during the procedure by the surgeon. Sometimes, they are supervised by the attending anesthesiologist as well.

While Nurse Anesthesiologist typically works in operating suites, they combine their nursing skills as well to work in other areas of the hospital – outside of the operating room – as well. They may also work in birthing centers, dental offices, cosmetic surgeon’s office, emergency rooms, and other medical venues. These nurses must be very knowledgeable, and able to work well under pressure, making decisions quickly as someone’s life could depend on the decisions that are made.

To become a registered nurse, you must obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Usually, this is a Bachelor of Science Degree. Additionally, in order to become a Nurse Anesthesiologist, you must work as a year for at least one year – preferably in critical care. After completing these requirements, you can apply for Nurse Anesthesiologist Schooling. These programs last anywhere from two to three years, and typically result in a Master’s degree or a Doctorate. Upon completion of your education, you must become certified, by taking the exam for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist, and you must re-certify every two years. Re-certification is done through continuing education programs.

Nurse Anesthesiologist is a growing field, and there is a shortage of professionals in this field at present. It is believed that approximately 30,000 more Nurse Anesthesiologist are required to fill the jobs that are currently open in this field.
